The acute care setting offers the occupational therapy practitioner the opportunity to work with hospitalized individuals with diagnoses such as strokes, heart attacks, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and emphysema (Bondoc et al., 2012). The practitioner’s presence in critical care, neurological, cardiac, and orthopedic units further illustrates the variety of needs that can be met by occupational therapy practitioners within one treatment setting.
